The new Whitney Houston album in 2009, as yet untitled, and with no release date may well be one of the most anticipated albums in recent years. The long awaited album will be her seventh studio album.

Known as The Voice, the Grammy Award winning pop icon, Whitney Houston, now 45, released her self-titled debut album 1985, which went on to become the best-selling debut album in history by a female artist. Throughout her career Whitney Houston has sold over 140 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide. She is on the Rolling Stone magazine list of The 100 Greatest Singers. She is also known for film roles in iconic movies of the 1990s, particularly ‘The Bodyguard’ (with Kevin Costner) and ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ (with Denzel Washington).

Her last album was the 2002 Just Whitney which, though certified platinum like all of her previous albums was the lowest in sales and, as is well known, the singer’s turbulent personal life had made headlines for years.

Recording industry mogul Clive Davis, himself a legend, who has been the guiding force and mentor of Whitney Houston throughout her career, holds a lavish annual pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills. It was the setting of the most recent public performance of the iconic singer. The performance which you can see in the video below, was a medley of some of her greatest hits; “I Will Always Love You”, “I Believe In You And Me”, “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay” and “I’m Every Woman”.

The performance led to a rise in talk of her comeback album. Would there be a new Whitney Houston album in 2009?

Clive Davis spoke in an interview in February 2009 about the much rumored Whitney Houston comeback album.

“You wait for the great songs to be written,” Davis said about the long-awaited comeback album from one of his most prized prodigies. “The great hits Whitney has given to the public for so many years — you keep encouraging and setting the bar. R. Kelly and Whitney just went into the studio with a great song called ‘I Look to You.’

“The same way her debut album took a while to put together, you just don’t do it by going into a computer. You wait for the material to justify a new album,” he added. “Pretty much, it’s come in.”

In the interview, Clive Davis also confirmed that for the new Whitney Houston album in 2009 she is working with famed producer and hit-maker David Foster.

Recently, VIBE magazine interviewed celebrated songwriter Diane Warren, who has written numerous hit singles for a variety of top artists, notably Celine Dion (“Because You Loved Me”“) and Toni Braxton (“Unbreak My Heart”). Warren penned what is intended to be the Whitney Houston comeback single, ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.’

“Whitney’s back. Big time.” Warren said she wrote the song specifically for Houston. “I tried to get inside her head.”

According to Rap-Up.com, celebrated producer Swizz Beatz has written an uptempo song for Whitney Houston entitled “Mill Dollar Bill.”

“I got a big comeback record for her,” Swizz wrote on his Twitter page last month. “She’s comin’ back crazy!”

Previously, according to Rap-Up.com, the producer has tweeted about his recording sessions with Houston.

“Whats popping today yall ok today i got Whitney Houston in the studio and Clive Davis will be there i got a big come back rec 4 her showtime.”

There might indeed be a new Whitney Houston Album in 2009.
