Whitney Houston is one true diva. And I mean that in the nicest way. Leave it to Ms. Houston to wear not one, but two different outfits during Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

She walked the red carpet in a black and silver number, but by the time dinner began, she slipped into a plum-colored gown. Both were formfitting and showed us Houston was in great physical shape. I could only imagine that there would have been a third wardrobe change if she actually performed last night. I’m told that Houston was scheduled to belt out three songs, but the plans were canceled on Friday. There were, however, plenty of other megastars who hit the stage for a song or two. But before I get to that, lemme tell you a little bit more about the Davis bash. It’s been an annual tradition for, like, forever. Last night’s soiree didn’t disappoint.
Here’s what went down...

Houston spent the dinner portion of the evening sitting at a table beside gazillionaire philanthropist Barbara Davis. At one, point Lionel Richie sat down to say hello. Then Nicole Richie walked by, and she Houston embraced like old friends. New mommy Richie also introduced boyfriend Joel Madden to Houston, who then jumped over to a table with Alicia Keys and Fergie to watch the night’s concert. (Fergie’s fiancé, Josh Duhamel was partying out of town at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament.).... As for the performances, Alicia Keys could do no wrong. She sang three songs, including "Superwoman" and "No One." Everyone was on their feet by the end, and Houston had her hands in the air the entire time.

David Spade chatted with Ashlee Simpson, Fergie and Dave Grohl.
Randy Jackson hobnobbed with Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel.
Lindsay Lohan smoked a cigarette on the outside balcony overlooking the hotel pool after being introduced to NBC honcho Ben Silverman, while Tommy Lee playfully lifted Pink into the air nearby. Lohan didn’t stick around too long. She was later spotted at Goa nightclub.
Carried Underwood walked the red carpet alone, but her hottie boyfriend, Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford joined her inside. They sat at a table with Underwood’s fellow Idol stars Fantasia and Blake Lewis, Paula Abdul and producer Nigel Lythgoe. Randy Jackson stopped by the table at different times to say hello.
Lee ignored California’s smoking laws and lit up a cigarette in the ballroom at the same time Slash opened a pack of smokes at their table.
Simpson and Pete Wentz made their way to the Intrigue bar as Foo Fighters opened the show with "The Pretender."
Houston may have gotten a huge round of applause when Davis introduced her from the stage, but it was New York Giants superstar Michael Strahan who got the loudest cheers from the crowd of about 900.
Rod Stewart stood up and feigned shyness by putting a napkin over his head when he received a shout-out from Davis.
Who else was there? Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Usher, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Will.I.Am, Busta Rhymes, Jackie Collins, Jon Voight, Akon, Missy Elliott, Ashanti, Taylor Swift, Feist, Herbie Hancock, Meatloaf, politico Al Sharpton and even the astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

As for the performances, Alicia Keys could do no wrong. She sang three songs, including "Superwoman" and "No One." Everyone was on their feet by the end, and Houston had her hands in the air the entire time.

Newcomer Leona Lewis showed off her pipes with her new single “Bleeding Love” and a cover of “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” (If you’re into divas like Houston and Mariah Carey, Lewis is for you.)

Josh Groban dueted with Andre Bocelli. Their booming voices captured everyone’s attention. Such powerful voices, yet it seems so effortless for them. Amazing.

Wyclef ended the evening with a fun little ditty.

He sang: "Obama and Clinton/ You’ve got competition/ Vote for Wyclef for president."

Davis summed up the evening best when he looked over the crowd and exclaimed, “You all look mighty fine tonight.”
