Whitney Houston Postpones U.K. Dates
The opening dates of Whitney Houston's first U.K. tour in 11 years have been postponed due to illness.
The first three dates of the tour at Manchester Evening News Arena (April 8-9) and Glasgow SECC (April 11) have been rescheduled by promoter Marshall Arts. The Glasgow date has been moved to May 1 and the Manchester shows will take place at the end of the tour on June 16-17.
The decision was made with "great disappointment" according to a statement. It follows the April 6 announcement that Houston's Paris show that evening was postponed.
"Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection," said the statement from Sony Music today (April 7). "Upon medical advice Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover."
Houston's performance during her "Nothing but Love" world tour in Australia in February was panned by some critics and fans. Her publicist Kristen Foster issued a statement at the time denying Houston was having health problems and insisted she was having a "terrific time on her tour and with her fans."
The show features production from Baz Halpin, who created shows for Pink and Tina Turner.
Whitney Houston hospitalized in Paris
Whitney Houston, 46, is being treated for nose and throat problems in a Paris hospital after canceling the first European dates of her comeback tour.
According to the BBC, a statement from her record label, RCA, said: "Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. "Upon medical advice, Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover."
She was scheduled to play concerts on Thursday and Friday in the English city of Manchester but the organizers said those have been rescheduled for mid-June.
Whitney Concerts in Manchester and Glasgow to be Rescheduled
With great disappointment, Whitney Houston has postponed her first three concerts in the UK due to illness.
The shows affected are her two concerts in Manchester this Thursday and Friday (8 and 9 April) at the Manchester Evening News Arena and her show in Glasgow on Sunday (11 April) at the S.E.C.C.
All three dates have been rescheduled. Glasgow now takes place on Saturday 1 May whilst the Manchester dates will take place at the end of the tour on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 June.
Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Upon medical advice Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover.
Whitney's Nothing But Love show is packed with some of her greatest hits including "Saving All My Love" and "It's Not Right (But It's OK)," as well as her more recent hits including the top 3 smash hit "Million Dollar Bill" from her current critically acclaimed album, "I Look to You." "I Look To You" is Whitney's fastest selling album in the UK, and has already sold over 2.5 million copies. The show uses a brand new never seen before production from Baz Halpin, who created shows for artists including Pink and Tina Turner.
Only last month Whitney had said how excited she was to be performing again in the UK after her eleven year absence and was looking forward to performing new songs as well as crowd favorites.
Concert promoters Marshall Arts have asked ticket holders for Manchester and Glasgow to retain their tickets which will remain valid.
Those unable to make the rescheduled shows should apply to their point of ticket purchase for their refund.
