First released in August of 1985, "Saving All My Love for You" was the second hit to emerge from Whitney's self-titled debut album, and became her first of seven consecutive record-holding U.S. number-one singles. A romantic ballad with a twist, the song actually tells the tale of the singer's infatuation for a married man, and had already scored a minor hit for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. in 1978. But it was Whitney's sensitive interpretation of its thorny subject (promising she was "saving all her love" for him), that elevated the single to the top of the charts worldwide, subsequently earning her the 1986 Grammy Award for 'Best Female Pop Vocal Performance' and the American Music Award for 'Favorite R&B/Soul Video.' Said video, featured here, was filmed in London and illustrates the song's storyline by depicting Whitney as she falls for her married producer.
